ELECTRIC BLOCK SYSTEM
------
Modern Device Has Been Installed at Large Cost
The superintendent in charge of the work expects to install the automatic block system on the Pocahontas division from Ennis to Bluefield shortly after February 1st. The equipment has been put in and all that remains to be done before the signals are put in service is the charging of the storage batteries. Each signal is equipped with its local power but the main power house is located at Coaldale. From the Coaldale plant the local batteries will be charged once a week. To guard against a possible break in the current each joint in the rails has been bonded with galvanized steel wire. The system has been put in at a big out lay [sic] of money by the Norfolk and Western, and it will require a number of skilled electricians to maintain the service after it has been inaugurated, but like the Mallet engine, it is modern and the Norfolk & Western road is up-to-date.
