Does anyone have history of N&W police during and after the merger with the Nickel Plate RR in the early 1960's? Paul Bredwell Paul: I can't tell you much about NKP's property protection personnel. One was gunned down on the 55th Street Bridge in Cleveland. On the VGN and N&W, THE policeman was Joe Byrum. He was assigned to the last run of VGN's No. 3 and during the latter part of his career, he was assigned to watch the Jefferson Street crossing in Roanoke -- there'd been some purse-snatchings of general office employees on their lunch break. You could see him having conversations with Mr. Claytor on the corner of Shenandoah Ave. and Jefferson Street most any day. Harry Bundy
