The cars in the photo at Portsmouth appear to be class MS, built by Bethlehem in 1927/28, and yes, they had end doors. The MS1 at IRM was originally a Pullman parlor, purchased by N&W and initially converted to a coach in 1941, then to a combine, and finally to mail-storage.
