Rail Cam Now Working

I just realized that my statement that the Roanoke Rail Walk connects the VMT (which is on the south side of the tracks) with the O. Winston Link Museum (which is on the north side of the tracks) may give the wrong impression. Although it is customary with some of us to say that the Rail Walk connects VMT and OWL, it technically does not quite do that. The Rail Walk is entirely on the south side of the tracks, and the east end of the Rail Walk is near the City Market area and near the south end of the walkway over the tracks with access, first, to Shenandoah Avenue and , second, to Hotel Roanoke, both on the north side of the tracks. The OWL museum is on Shenandoah Avenue just a short distance east of the overhead walkway.

As additional info to those viewing the Virginia Museum of Transportation rail camera who might not be familiar with that area in Roanoke, the "track" painted on the pavement in the right foreground is part of the Roanoke Rail Walk, which connects the VMT (on which the camera is mounted) and the O. Winston Link Museum three blocks east (in the direction the camera is viewing). Along the rail walk at the near end of the tall fence a set of steam locomotive wheel centers can be seen. This is only one of many railroad artifacts along the Walk, such as benches made out of freight car wheelsets (including iron wheels cast in Roanoke Shops many years ago), a diesel horn that can be blown, an illuminated signal, a stage made out of a Southern Railway flat car, a speaker that lets one listen in on the train radio broadcasts, etc.

The Roanoke Rail Cam is "on" again. And thank you Gordon for the address of the VMT camera. I needed my train "fix" for today. It would be great to link the 2 cameras together on a split screen.
