There is a follow-up article which will appear on the Mailing List in a few days mentioning again the need for the depot at Hockman, and mentioning that there was not even a shelter for people wanting to get on the passenger trains, so this indicates that Hockman must have been a flag stop.

Gordon:
I don't know what your research of old timetables will reveal. From a 1939 Pocahontas Div. timetable,
Hockman doesn't appear on the schedule page, BUT in the special instructions, it indicates that
Nos. 5 and 6 would stop on signal there -- no time given. Track chart indicates it was at the west
end of Furnace passing siding and it appears that there was a wye there. Traffic control was late
coming to the Clinch Valley and it was only half-a-mile (or so) from "HQ" to the east end of Furnace.
Westbound trains to the Clinch Valley received orders at the tower and hurriedly thumbed through
a dozen or so "flimsies" to check for overdues, and meets at Furnace before digesting the rest. Harry Bundy
