Without a date and more details it would be impossible to even guess.
The first class J 4-4-2 no. 606 Wrecked at Juniper on April 4, 1906 with the Cannon Ball. Train went through open switch and locomotive ended up in the Dismal Swamp. The locomotive was rebuilt and continued service until Sept. 22, 1933.

Does anyone know anything about an N&W train wreck between Petersburg and Suffolk, probably in the Wakefield or Ivor area? Not recent, but don't know how long ago.
Also, how can you positively identify that a steam whistle came off an N&W engine?
Thanks - H.B. Bryant
