Wreck Narrowly Averted
A serious wreck was narrowly averted on Friday when train No. 10 was coming through the tunnel just east of Hemphill. A freight train had gone within the block, the engineer having misread the signal, and owning to the tunnel's being filled with smoke, the engineer of No. 10 did not see the caboose of the freight train, and had run into the cab before he was able to stop the train. A freight car and the caboose were thrown from the track, but no one was seriously hurt. The passengers on No. 10 were right badly shaken up, and frightened over the narrow escape.
