ROLLING STOCK BILL
------
Graham Interested in Measure Politicians are Scrapping Over

Graham is interested in the rolling stock bill that the politicians at Richmond are scrapping over. Should the bill become a law as amended by the senate Friday it will mean considerable to the county of Tazewell and to the town of Graham. Under a Tazewell county road law all taxes collected from common carriers go to the road tax fund. Heretofore the cities where the headquarters of the railroads are established have been collecting under the existing statute the tax on the rolling stock. Under the amended bill seventy-five per cent of this tax will be equally distributed among the counties through which the railroads operate. Tazewell county will probably be the beneficiary by some ten thousand dollars if the measure passes and is approved by Governor Mann. Graham will share in this additional road tax money and it means several thousand dollars annually in the Clear Fork district not heretofore available for road improvement.
------
[Its a refrain to be heard throughout ensuing years, railroad taxes going to fund roads that facilitated truck and bus competition.]
