Correction to my earlier post - the temporary trestle existed for construction of the NJ Turnpike rather than the
GS Parkway.? Hard to believe that was 60 years ago - our family moved from that part of NJ about the same time.? I didn't have gray hair then !

The train was an afternoon?southbound commuter run on the PRR, which had left the main line south of Rahway on its way to the NY&LB junction north of perth Amboy.? The temporary trestle existed while the Garden State parkway was being constructed at grade, below the railroad.? The slow order for the double S curve was ignored; excessive speed caused the derailment.? The line through Woodbridge was double track and used almost exclusively for commuter traffic.?
