I respectfully disagree; I don't believe 1238 was among the assets that N&W acquired from Wabash; I believe it  had been retired by Wabash before the merger.

The WAB/NKP/DT&I Color Guide from Morning Sun has pictures of  3 WAB cars (1237, 1240, and 1241) as part of series 1232-1241.  The photo caption  states it was unlikely that these cars were repainted with N&W markings, but indicates potential N&W numbers as in the 1800-1838 series .  
  
The March 1965 Official Register of Passenger Train Equipment Shows N&W 1800 series cars with the same length and seating capacity (some 58 and some 68) as the Wabash numbers that are also listed.  The N&W listing shows "No. of Cars" to be zero.  From this information you could assume that WAB 1238 was to become N&W 1807.

The information available to me suggests this car was not on the N&W roster. Several of these cars were given a N&W number, but not repainted.  The renumbering was probably on "paper only" as most of these cars that did make to N&W were disposed of quickly.
