In 1958, the N&W published a small slick-paper booklet titled "Powered By People."  Exclusive of the covers , the booklet contains 18 pages.  It measures 8" wide by 5.5" high, and is held together by two staples. It appears to have been printed by letter press technique rather than offset printing (which probably indicates that Stone Printing Company did the job .)  No publication information is given, and the only date is at the lower left of the back cover: January 1958.

The  booklet contains several dozen photographs (old and new) of railroad equipment, workers, facilities and engines (wonderfully with  no Dismals ,) and recounts some of the high points of the railroad's history.  The last chapter, consisting of five pages and titled "Fair Enough," is given to what would today be called "customer relations."

The text seems to indicate that the booklet's composition was  an "inside job."  At least there are no category mistakes and "logisms" which would betray the author as someone who was not intimately familiar with the workings of the railroad and its language.

Who penned this booklet?  Does any of the history behind the publication survive?
