N&W Passenger Service to Washington, DC

In an old 1930s WPA guide to Washington, the N&W is listed as one of seven railroads with passenger service to Union Station in Washington.  How was this done, over the SR from Lynchburg?

 Not sure what the WPA used as a reference.  A 1954 edition of The Official Guide shows
 five roads serving Washington, D.C. - B&O, PRR, Southern, RF&P, and C&O.  But even in
 1930, there were at least 6 roads (maybe others)  that offered through car service to D.C. -- NYNH&H, N&W, FEC, SAL, ACL, and even the wooden-axle NS provided through sleeping
 car service from Pinehurst, NC and Virginia Beach to New York.  And beginning in Oct., 1930,
 PRR offered an airline connection - TAT at Port Columbus.                          Harry Bundy
