LITTLE GIRLS STRUCK BY TRAIN YESTERDAY
------
One Had Leg Cut Off at Knee and Other Is Not So Seriously Injured
Engine 992 struck two little girls at Powhatan yesterday afternoon about 1:20 o'clock, as they ran from behind some cars on the Powhatan delivery track to the front of the engine just as it was about even with the cars. About the same time train No. 2 passed on the east bound track, and it is supposed the girls were frightened by the roar of the passenger train to such an extent that they did not hear the oncoming freight engine, which they could not see, and in front of which they ran.
One of the little girls, a Miss Brooks, whose, home is at Powhatan, had her leg cut off about the knee and she was carried to her home, where she was placed in her mother's arms, while a doctor was sent for. The other little girl, whose home is at Maybeury, and who was at Powhatan, is about ten years old. It is not believed her injuries are serious, although she was badly frightened, and it is possible is more seriously hurt than was thought yesterday afternoon.
