Question about this image in particular.  Does anyone know exactly what this concrete base was used for?

Could be for a train order signal.  Prospect had an operator until 1964.  Strange
incident happened there in the 60's.  Although the Farmville Belt was traffic
control, the old line through Farmville was automatic block.  Standard operating
procedure was to route eastbound freights via the Belt, but one evening there had
been a derailment on the Belt and the freights were diverted to the Old Line.  A train
order was issued for a meet between No. 77 and No. 86 at Prospect (the siding there
was 11,000 feet), but when the opposing movements arrived, neither train would
