Dave,
I believe the RF&P passenger cars were coaches. If you have, or can find, the Society's 1998 calendar, the front cover shot has one of the RF&P cars in the consist of the passenger train. I don't know the reason for this arrangement.

Subject: RF&P Run-through Passenger Cars on N&W Trains
I was intrigued by the statement in the upper caption on Page 9 of the latest copy of The Arrow (Vol. 29, No. 2, April, May, June 2013) regarding run-through RF&P cars in the blue/gray paint scheme, found on the Cavalier. Having lived near the RF&P (when it WAS the RF&P) on two different occasions, this immediately caught my eye.
I am familiar with the nine cars (three PRR, three RF&P, three N&W) that made up the pool for New York - Norfolk 10-6 sleepers, but they were all in the PRR paint scheme. Did RF&P sometimes contribute other sleepers in the blue/gray scheme for this service? Did RF&P coaches run through?
I also believe I read that in the later days of N&W passenger service the Petersburg-Norfolk portion of the "Richmond trains" was combined with the Cavalier rather than a separate train; am I remembering correctly?
Any additional information would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dave Phelps
