Steam Days clips on the Peavine

According to my records, the last "regular" steam passenger operation on the
Cincinnati District was the eastbound "Powhatan Arrow" on July 19, 1958, of
which I made a movie at Book, just west of Portsmouth. The engine was
Class J 603.

I don't recall all the details, but there were a few instances afterward,
when either No. 3 or No. 25 was excessively late, that a "J" would be run to
Cincinnati light -- or perhaps with a rider coach -- to protect the on time
departures of No. 26 or No. 4 respectively. I recall at least one light
eastbound movement, but I don't remember the exact circumstances.

I can tell you with certainty that there were no "Joy Rides" with a "J" on
the Cincinnati District by a road foreman of engines or anyone else after
regular steam operation ended.
