Back to the EL-C knick-name. In wrapping up his story of the NH EF-4's, as the Hew Haven classified them, he said that "a modified McGinnis paint job.....with a red-orange body having three white stripes with black undercarriage....
McGinnis was quite a manipulator. After coming to the old NS, he set up a one-transaction
corporation that bought that road's most modern steam locomotives at scrap value and then
sold them to Pan American as 2nd hand.
Fred Dunn came from New Haven to N&W and became head of Car Accounts. He said
that McGinnis put his wife on the payroll as a designer. So indeed, the EL-Cs probably
had a Mrs. McGinnis paint job. Incidentally, Fred told the tale that Dunlap called him
in New Haven, offered him a position in Car Accounting, and told him he had 30 seconds
