All,
I had heard or read somewhere that before the N&W sent the steam
locomotives to the scrappers, that they had orders to permanently
disable the locomotives. I was thinking they cut a hole in the crown
sheet, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone confirm this? I want to be sure that I'm correct about that.
