     Yes, at one time the N&W did use "Medium" in the name of some 
signal aspects.
The 1949 rule book shows that:
Approach Diverging was once  "Approach Medium"
Diverging Clear was once "Medium Clear"
Diverging Approach was once "Medium Approach"
