I can't tell you the history of the caboose, but I can tell you that
those are NOT arch bars. Those are Andrews trucks, by the look of
them. Arch bars were built up out of flat bar stock, whereas these are
cast. The Andrews design shared the separate bolt-on journal boxes with
the arch bar design, allowing some stock of parts to be reused, but it
reduced the maintenance significantly.
