Definitely not gases such as oxygen or hydrogen.  They would need 
special containers for
cryogenics = with refrigeration and temperature/pressure control.  
Could be corrosives (would
show on placards); or even wine, as someone suggested.

The tanks on container trains I asked about yesterday are the small 
round tanks in metal frames.
 
Ed said they are probably hauling liquids. I was wondering if they 
might be hauling gases (oxygen or hydrogen, etc) ? What kinds of 
liquids or gases ?
