Jim,
That date of 12-58 for 563 lines up with the scene we have of a
500 series engine going through
Batavia, OH on film.  The date was Jan. 1959.  There were countless
N&W engines going to a scrap dealer or
two west of Cincinnati on the old NYC line west of Riverside.  We even
have scenes of a Virginian engine, several 1200's,
K1, and K2a's.  In fact #100 is seen several times going on this line
to scrap(chased).  Countless Y class engines, and even #325
went through along with a bunch of 0-8-0's.
So back to the 500's.  When was 578 retired, and when did it go
to Ohio Railway Museum?
One more thing about engine scrapping....yes there was a place in
Portsmouth around New Boston, and a friend of mine saw 613 parts
laying around after coming back from the 1959 NRHS convention.  In our
film we see 601 in standby, and 613 in the deadline during a Jan 1959
visit.  We also see 1232 in a 1958 scene at Portsmouth, and later dead
in tow at Batavia, headed to scrap.  That engine was significant cause
it pulled the last steam time freight out of Cincinnati(Clare yard),
in 1956.
