JK tower

I am trying to scratchbuild JK tower out of styrene.
Question:
Why don't the doors match the drawings?...is it because the door on the drawings is more readily available in HO scale?  LOL
 
what are the V shapes in the lookout windows?  trying to make the big observation windows and have no clue what the V shape is in the 
top and bottom of the three big front windows and the two corner windows...
The V is upside down in the top of the windows and right side up in the bottom...
