1916. Copied and OCR into a word doc.
I have seen very little info on the logging operations.

*NEW RIVER, HOLSTON AND WESTERN RAILROAD COMPANY.*

The New River, Holston and Western Railroad Company was incorporated
under the Act of the General Assembly of Virginia entitled "An Act to
incorporate the New River, Holston and Western Railroad Company"
approved January 15th, 1900; By the charter of said Company it was
authorized and empowered "to construct, operate, and maintain, in whole
or in part, a line of railroad of standard or narrow gauge, with single
or double track, with metal, for the purpose of carrying passengers and
freight, beginning on the Norfolk and Western Railway at Narrows, Giles
County, Virginia, and running in a westerly direction through the
Counties of Giles and Bland, and from thence by the most feasible route
to a point on the Tennessee or Kentucky line, as said company may deem
proper."
The charter of the said Company was amended by the Act entitled:
An Act to amend and re-enact Sections 6 and 10 of an Act of the General
Assembly of Virginia, approved January 15, 1901,**entitled an Act to
Incorporate the New River, Holston and Western Railroad Company.

10 of an act of the General Assembly of Virginia, approved January 15,
1901, entitled an act to incorporate the New River, Holston and Western
Railroad Company." Approved April 2, 1902*.*

and by the certificate of or application of the New River, Holston and
Western Railroad Company dated January4th, 1913*, *upon which was issued
the certificate of the Department of the State Corporation Commission
of Virginia, January 10th, 1913** * * *ordering that the Charter of the
New River, Holston and Western Railroad Company, a corporation created
by the General Assembly of Virginia be, and the same is amended and
altered in the manner and for the purposes set forth in said
application, etc., which certificate of amendment to the Charter is
certified to by the Secretary of the Commonwealth and recorded in his
office on January 10th, 1913.**
The Virginia Act of April 2*/, /*1902, Sec. 6, mentions the town of
Rocky Gap, in the county of Bland, as one point through which the New
River, Holston and Western Railroad is to be constructed.
The New River, Holston and Western Railroad was built in sections. That
part from its junction with the Norfolk and Western Railway at Narrows
to Penvir, 6.67 miles, was-located in the early part of 1900;
construction work was-begun in March 1900,**and it**was put in operation
in 1901.**

The part of its line from Penvir to Day, being 12*.7 *miles from
Narrows, was mostly located in the year 1904*. *It was constructed
during the years 1906**and 1907*, *and put in operation to Day in 1907*.*
That part of the line from Day to Rocky Gap on Wolf Creek at the mouth
of Clear Fork in Bland County, Virginia, being 20*/./*6*//*miles from
Narrows, was located in the year 1909*; *constructed during the years
1909**and 1910*, *and put in operation in 1910*.*

That part of the New River, Holston and Western Railroad from Rocky Gap
to Bastian, 29.7*//*miles from Narrows, was located in the year
1913**and put in operation March 25, 1914.
**
That portion of the line from Bastian to Suiter, being 34.59miles from
Narrows, was located in the year 1913*, *constructed during the year
1914**and put in operation September 10, 1914*.*
The location was, however, made and adopted by the**Board a further
distance of 6.2 miles up Hunting Camp Creek above Suiters to the divide
between Hunting Camp Creek and Lick Creek in Bland County, Virginia.
On June 30, 1916, the New River, Holston and Western Railroad was
operated from Narrows, on the Norfolk and Western Railway, to Suiter,
Bland County, Virginia, a length of 34.59 miles.
