Hi Lee:
 
I always enjoy the open air, down-town farmers market, be  certain to drive 
up Mill Mountain to the base of the Star. A drive around the  Shaffer's 
Crossing area is interesting & visit the Salem Station area  along the NS main 
SW of the town is enjoyable.
 
These are some of the areas I frequent when visiting  Roanoke.
