It's not well known and the special instructions
in N&W timetables aren't that easy to decipher,
but in the 1960s and 70s and maybe continuing
longer, C&O had trackage rights over N&W
from Gilbert to Pemberton.  So if there was
an interruption in service between Thurmond and
Barboursville, it was possible too for the C&O to
detour using Winding Gulf and Guyandot River
branches. Performing an audit, I found no evidence
that C&O had utilized the trackage rights for one
year.  Can't say what C&O's intentions were in
acquiring rights across the N&W.  Harry Bundy
