Hi, Jim.
Thanks for the shot of 566. Being N&W and taken by Ham Rouse it probably is Hagerstown. 

Wonder why the N&W used these inspection hatches on some classes and only some engines of other classes. Maybe they had a certain repair or item inside they had to periodically inspect on a more frequent basis than during classed repairs? Working on aircraft for 40+ years I have seen this done on them.
Interesting detail though. I believe I saw one in a PSC catalog so maybe one of my E-2s will gain one.
I need another Sunset 12,000g/20t tender. Anyone have a spare to sell?

Here is a photo of E2a 566 with the same type of boiler inspection hatch.  This photo is from the H. W. Rouse collection and presumably taken at Hagerstown, MD.

That's the first and only one I have ever seen on an E, It was fairly common on all K classes. Unfortunately, most of the pictures we have of E's show the other side.

I'd still like to find out that one of them also used a cross-compound air pump too.
I have 3 Sunset M-2's I want to rework also and during my photo search for both these classes I made a strange discovery about N&W steam.........I'm really drawn to what I call the 1935-37 look. The beer keg headlight bracket with the round headlight with the angled number plate on top.
