It was a busy place during WWII.  Southern 2-10-2s were rated at 1600tons west of Bristol while N&W Y-6s were rated at 3100 east.  
 
Knocksville Div. Time Table No. 40 eff. May 7, 1944 shows Southern had
five 1st class eastbounds arriving Bristol and five 1st class westbounds  departing.
(Nos. 1-4, 5-6, 17-18, 41-42, and 45-46) In addition there were two 2nd
class freight arriving and departing, plus a daily except Sunday local.
World War II probably meant there were in addition sections and MAIN
(troop) trains too.  "Passenger trains handled by passenger type steam loco-
motives were good for 70 MPH, Bristol-Chattanooga, but diesel electrics
