Joe McNew was the engineer up until about late 1956 or early 1957 - I don't
know the exact date. Nichols took the job until the end of steam. Don't
know the date of the last steam run.

I don?t know specifically about the 382, but there seems to have been a
general movement to relocate headlights on smaller power during the
mid-1950s. I have pictures os several Ms at Bristol with the lowered
headlights. I know that some M-2s were moved, as were the Clinch Valley
Pacifics, 563 and 578. I never saw any official word on it.
