​That is why the line out of Pulaski was the North Carolina Division
(later, the North Carolina Branch) -- plans were to drop off the
mountainside from Galax to connect with the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley,
which N&W officials saw as the perfect outlet to the south for its coal and
freight. There is a drawing in GOB East that shows the proposed route.
