Speaking of Branches, Has anyone heard of an update on the Roanoke Beltline?
I heard they cut down some trees in the middle of the Tracks but that was a
while ago ..Ken Tanner

Abram,
This short-lived branch passed about 0.5 miles from where my home is located
in Southwest Roanoke County (but long before this neighborhood was
developed).? The branch left the Punkin Vine somewhere near where
present-day VA 419 passes under the track, and its route is roughly followed
by VA 419 today until the point where the branch crossed Mud Lick Creek,
where I seem to remember reading that a ore washing plant was located.? The
branch continued from the creek up grade to the ore mines along about where
Castle Rock Road runs today.? Until developers chopped down all of the trees
to build dwellings named ironically "McVitty /Forest/," and especially moved
a lot of earth around, it was possible to see the branch right of way where
it approached Mud Lick Creek on its way to the mines.

Came off Winston Salem line just past where the bridge is over US 419 is,
ran around and practically in front of what used to the County Library and
then back to Castle Rock Road. Until a bunch of apartments/vonos were built,
you could see the right of way off 419 on the Salem side of the library.

What times are the departures & arrivals of Amtrak at the new Roanoke
facility? I have checked the camera at various times but have not seen any
action. I did, however see some footage on You Tube of Amtrak action in
Roanoke.

Terry:
Since they vary somewhat depending on M-F or Sa, Su, Hol, here's a link to
the Amtrak schedule. Look for the "New" by the Roanoke listing.
