Steam era Wreck Trains

A lot of that would depend on where the wreck was as a lot of track could not take certain size or curvature locomotives, and partially what was readily available at the place the wreck train came out of. 

Usually on work trains, it was older, smaller power, such as a Z or Y3. Speed, in either case, was not the need.
