2018 Convention Update

All,

  Big news concerning our banquet and cocktail hour.  These events has been
moved to the southwest corner of the back shop as we have exceeded the
maximum capacity (per the fire marshal) of the original location ( general
purpose room).  The back shop does have a track that runs through it and N&W
GP-9 #620 will be the "backdrop" during the banquet.  Be sure to attend the
cocktail hour so you can get your photos of 620!  A map of the museum
grounds illustrating the location of all events will be included in all
registration packets.

  Although Athearn won't be present as an exhibitor, they have agreed to
send their samples of their forthcoming GP-9s for our convention.  These
will be on display at the NWHS Commissary tables.  Matt Herman of ESU
LokSound and close counterpart of Lee English/mBowser is going to inquire
about bringing Bowser's RS-3 undecorated samples with him.  Matt and ESU
LokSound will be an exhibitor in the backshop beginning on Friday May 18th.

  We have had a clinic cancellation and, with a bit of jockeying, have free
time on Friday May 18th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  I would like to dedicate
this open time frame for an NWHS member group photo with N&W 620.  This is
obviously a late breaking development and yours truly is making effort to
coordinate such.  It is likely that details about such will not be available
until, at minimum, a few days prior to the convention.  I will inform folks
of the details as soon as possible.

  On line registration will conclude on Tuesday May 15th as we have to print
name badges, prepare registrant packets, etc.  Fear not though, you will be
able to register for the convention on site at the NWHS commissary table
(located in the back shop). 

  Important:  Convention registration will only be at the Courtyard Marriott
hotel (convention HQ). Please stop at the hotel prior to arriving at the NC
Transportation Museum to pick up your registration packet.  The hotel
address is 120 Marriott Circle, Salisbury, NC.

  Grilled chicken has been added to the menu for the banquet.  Hence, you
will have a choice of chicken or beef for the banquet dinner. Two cash bars
will also be available serving red wine and beer. Wine will be $6.00 a glass
and beer will be $4.00 each.

  I appreciate the audience that I have been given over the past eight
months regarding this convention.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with
