Subject: Re: Military Train
A question for the membership: I served in the USArmy's last active duty railway unit, the 714 TBROSD&E, from 1969-70, when I went to RVN. I have quite a few items from my time, including photos, yardmaster schedules, locomotive plates (plastic from GP-9 #1814, etc). As noone in my immediate family has any connection to this unit, I intend to forward all of my military memorabilia to the Ft. Eustis, VA, Army Transportation Museum in Newport News. While I was in HHC, C Company, the operating company, had numerous encounters with the N&W which ran outside the post.
If anyone has another location which could benefit more, please let me know.
PS - I'm sending all my OCS material to the Engineer Museum at Ft. Leonard Wood - I think it will have more meaning to an Army Engineer than the very nice, but generic (for lack of a better term) OCS Museum at Ft. Benning, GA.
Thanks for your time - Essayons!
Ed Svitil

I know the topic is closed, but:
Mike: I was absolutely not admonishing YOU. I just wanted to make sure that people, especially young veterans, know that we have been in a wartime period for 28 years (retired VA bureaucrat; there are some young folks out there who aren't aware that there are some wartime benefits to which they're entitled). And you are totally right about in today's world where cameras in the pockets of just about everyone who is carrying a cell.

Did not think my photos would be admonished. Will give the critical comments due consideration.
Having lived (as a teenager) through the WWII years I understand the implications but recognize the difference in today’s world when a hundred iPhones record everything happening everywhere.

Amen to the observations on train movements of our military equipment. Do we really need to know their exact schedules or routes in these turbulent, tenuous times?
You would think a few tarps would have been a good investment to cover the machines. They do look like formidable but very expensive rides.
Hopefully, we can continue to enjoy our shared passion for trains and all of the many different loads we see on the tracks without doing anything that causes problems for our troops.
Yes, let's get back to trains.

Technically, we have been at war since about September 1990.
There's actually a regulation that specifies periods of war, at least for VA benefit purposes.
So that's 28 years. And still ongoing. And we thought at 11 years (later changed to 13 years)Vietnam was long.
Some of our young men and women have done their entire 20 during wartime.
Although the point about taking pictures of a trainload of tanks during a war is valid. Part of the reason we don't have pictures of the hoppers PRR leased to the Virginian during WWII.
Just for the record. Back to trains.
