Derailment

Harry,

I for one do not have to look up the location of Juniper.  When the 
611-powered employee special excursion train wrecked at Juniper May 18, 
1986, while going 60 miles per hour, I was called there to assist in the 
derailment cause finding.  When the NTSB decided to take over the cause 
finding, I was told to work with the NTSB mechanical specialist, Russ 
Quinby.  Finally, I had to testify at the NTSB hearing in Norfolk, 
mainly about the benefits in such a derailment of tightlock couplers in 
keeping those cars so equipped aligned and relatively undamaged even 
though derailed as opposed to the jack knifing that occurred on the 
older cars in the consist with E-head couplers.
