Why via Buford's Gap (Blue Ridge) ?

Using this southern route would have involved about 2 more miles of track, but look at what it has cost them to operate via Blue Ridge for the last 170 years !

Actually, the Tinker Creek Connection follows the plan for the south route exactly.                                                                                         H. Bundy
