Nothing listed under Ashe County (NC) or West Jefferson for any date. Abingdon has 4 maps circa late 1800s. Apparently, West Jefferson and surrounding area wasn’t populated enough to justify Sanborn’s map generation “team”. It’s possible Ashe County courthouse has property deeds showing RR ROW but that would be a significant search project. Topo maps obliterate the area around the station with post-track-removal images. Google Earth shows old ROW but the structures have changed so much since 1977 track removal that those images are practically worthless.

IMO, the ICC would be a good place to check out. Their 1917 valuation maps are key to ROW research for Southern. I know the V-C ROW maps are in the N&WHS Archives but they weren’t updated post-buyout by N&W.

Here is the link to the on-line Sanborn Maps at the Library of Congress:

https://www.loc.gov/collections/sanborn-maps/

Scroll down and on the left side, under Location, select "More Locations." Once at that page, on the upper left you can select to sort alphabetically. Note that listings are by states and counties. Have fun.

Thanks Ken. I have already purchased the second and third items on your
list from the Archives. However, the right of way map (item 2) was last
updated in 1943, and I am interested in the track as it existed from the
50's to abandonment in 1977. The two drawings (items 1 and 3) are also from
earlier dates and do not show the track in downtown West Jefferson several
blocks to the east of the depot.

Paul

Search for West Jefferson in the database turns up these drawings with
detail, the first two are the most detailed the last is a sketch.

https://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail.php?ID=200679

https://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail.php?ID=197687

https://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail.php?ID=96902

All three of these show with varying degrees of detail, the track
arrangement at West Jefferson.
