I don’t' know if there was a marker there. It wasn't the highest elevation on N&W - that was over 3500 feet just north of White Top Station.
The elevation at Rural Retreat, just over 2500 feet and just a oittoe higher than Bluefield,. was the highest elevation on any railr route between New York and New Orleans.

Does anyone have a photo of the old marker that was once at the crest of the grade at Rural Retreat that stated it was the highest point on the N&W?
