Was that proposed low-grade route to be used primarily for eastbound or westbound traffic?

Ken:

There's a drawing at the archives with a revised

date of 1959 which updates the original drawn

about 1910 showing the present Tinker Creek Connection.

N&W had a plan to avoid the westbound climb up

Blue Ridge with a reroute starting at Thaxton,

following Goose Creek briefly, then paralleling the

Virginian and the Roanoke River to a connection

shown in the photo.  It never happened, but before

the merger with VGN,  the mile or so in the Tinker

Creek connection was depicted in the revised
