regarding gobbledygoop on attachments, a partial answer at least

I have noticed the exact same problem from time to time. One thing I have
noted on the attachments or what seems like them at least: if they "html"
with them, you'll get gobbledgygoop, if you see "jpg" at the end, then the
attachment usually works.

It's not a total answer but it is an observation and maybe it can help the
moderators in resolving the issue.
