Hancock air whistles

Seaboard had some E4 units with Hancock air whistles. Also some E7's had them. All of their SDP35's had them.  They had a melodius sound, closer to a steam whistle than a diesel horn.  The first time I heard one (on an E4) I was startled. That said, I don't think you could mistake the sound for a steam whistle.  I don't know the rationale for their use, other than they would get your attention.

  I have never heard one of the NH air whistles, so, I can not comment on the difference. I would like to hear one though.

  Does this Hancock whistle differ from the Hancock Air Whistle that New Haven diesels and RDCs were equipped with?

  Just a newbie in the world of N&W and VGN.
