Size of Train Crews on N&W Passenger Trains ?

      On N&W passenger trains, Train Crew size was governed by an agreement.  
Not on passenger trains, but  on N&W's Lake Erie Division -- crew size wasdetermined by the State of Indiana.  Trains 68 cars or more required threebrakemen.  Eastbound from Fort Wayne, the 3rd brakeman would ride 16 milesto the Indiana/Ohio state line ,  the eastbound would slow down and thebrakeman would drop off and wait for a westbound with 68 + cars.  If no westboundsshowed up, N&W would send a taxi to Payne, Ohio to pick the brakeman up andbring him back to the yard office to go off duty.                     Harry Bundy
