Cloverdale VA Station Question

Looking at various pictures of the Cloverdale VA station it appears the station changed considerably through the years. Does anyone know the history of the station at Coverdale VA? My dad remembers how it appeared in the 1940s and into the 1950s, and the pictures from that time period are as he remembers it. However, a picture from the 1970s is very different.

This picture from the O Winston Link museum is from 1957.

Was the station modified or rebuilt at some point in time, and does anyone know when this occurred?
