Attached is 1883 correspondence regarding how Ashby station derived its name. I do not know if the assertion that a "first class" depot would be constructed and B. G. Ashby was appointed agent, but since this station was a telegraph office and he was a farmer and land owner, the appointment was unlikely. Records dating from the early 20th Century after the N&W acquired the SV indicate that the agent-operator position was a bid assignment, as were other stations. At this time, it is unknown what information Col. Upton L. Boyce provided.
