The Class A and Roller Rods

Jimmy -
The last five A engines, the 1238-1242, were built with the Timken High-
Dynamic lightweight alloy rods and the roller bearings.  I doubt that at
that time there was any thought of equipping any of the other A engines
with these features.
These engines were all assigned to Shaffers Crossing and were used for
special passenger trains.  THey didn't sit around waiting for this work;
they took their turns on coal trains, etc.
