Suspended Throttles, Screw Reverses

A few months ago, Mike Rector shared a photo (I believe on the Facebook group) showing external throttle rigging going to the steam dome of a K-1.  Before seeing that, I (like Abram) associated the suspended throttle with front end throttles. After seeing the K-1 arrangement, I suspect all(?) external throttle rigging arrangements used suspended throttle levers since there is no need for the reach rod to go through the backhead.

While looking for drawings for the K-1 Chambers throttle rigging, I found a drawing of an *external* bracket for a throttle reach rod for a Y-2. Sure enough, it also had external throttle valve rigging to the steam dome and a Chambers throttle.

I couldn’t find a cab photo that showed its throttle lever arrangement, but I would guess it also had a suspended throttle. Later photos appear to show it removed (along with the locomotive growing a second steam(?) dome. https://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail.php?ID=66605

Given both locomotives were pre-1920 N&W designs, it seems the railroad was experimenting with a new throttle system on early homebuilt designs?

Tangentially, attached is a page from a 1929 locomotive cyclopedia describing the Chambers valve.
