The "Stop & Proceed" morphed into one with a "G" plate, where the train 
could pass the signal at restricted speed without stopping in order that 
the train did not have to stop on a grade and then have problems 
starting again. Which then morphed into the signal being renamed and 
defined as "Restricting".
