No way this was a Shenandoah Valley or Scioto Valley piece. Plus it would have been a bellbottom, not a wire bottom. The dates are too late for that era. I would say Sumpter Valley (out in California) or something like that. Where is the seller located? That would be another key.
Several years ago, a lantern turned up as an N&W bellbottom. But the patent dates and style were way too early for Norfolk & Western (1881). The seller was from New England, so I'd say it was off the Norwich & Worchester. To this day, the buyer swears and be damned that it is off our society's favorite road.

Good evening all:
Please see this listing on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/404944953136?itmmeta=01HWKNVT7E2GYRN1DD5PHD68HF&hash=item5e48999f30:g:nO4AAOSwvEhmJA0r If the link does not function, please search for this item number: 404944953136 .
The seller states that the lantern is Shenandoah Valley Railroad. However, there are patent dates embossed on the rim which suggest that is was produced by Adams & Westlake after the 1910s, well after the Shenandoah Valley Railroad corporate identify disappeared. Thoughts or opinions from lantern specialists?
Best wishes,
