NS Articles for the Arrow

Thanks to all who commented upon the request for articles about the Norfolk Southern Corporation (NS).  Having listened to Directors and Officers at a recent meeting, these are my own thoughts.

First, any NS articles would pertain to the former N&W and VGN routes.  An example might be line relocations or structural changes.  What came to my mind --although it will not be from my keyboard-- could be an article about changing the Elkhorn Tunnel dimensions to provide for double-stack container trains.

Second, one NS-related article per Arrow is not going to significantly dilute the Society's focus upon the N&W and VGN heritage.  The Arrow only publishes articles that are submitted to the editor, which is why the original list posting was made.  If there are no NS articles submitted, none will be included.

Finally, directors and officers as well as all members should be concerned about becoming a dead-end society.  As much as the present membership may have fond memories and strong interest in the N&W and VGN, those visions are fading in our collective rear-view mirrors.  The NS article request more significantly seeks to cultivate newer members who may have an NS-orientation and then learn to appreciate the heritage of the N&W and VGN.

Your directors and officers invite members' further discussion about the Society's future.  I look forward to candid conversations at the 2025 Radford convention.
