Hirsimaki’s The Nickel Plate Era ( I think it is) that covers NKP power
both diesel and steam. Both are long out of print but you should be able
to get a loaner from your library of Rehor’s book. Eric’s
is a 1985 print and more of a synopsis but has great photos in it. I

some errors. The NKP had Berks from #700 to #779 and some nearly
identical ones from the W&LE- #800’s or #900’s(?). the
#700-#779 were S-1, S-2, and S-3’s with the S-1 and S-2’s somewhat
lighter and equipped with ATC for running into <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Chicago</st1:place></st1:City>. S-3’s were <st1:City
w:st="on">Bellevue</st1:City> and east to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Buffalo</st1:City></st1:place>.

before 1964. The WAB bought over 100 F-7’s and some Trainmasters in
the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. The NKP had PA’s,
RS-3’s GP-7’s and 9’s and RS-11’s while still running
the last of the 2-8-4’s, some 2-8-2’s and 0-8-0’s in the mid to
late 1950’s. The NKP was making lots of money then and the steam
2-84’s were making money for them until about 1957. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt'>I know this is an N&W group, but the roads were bought by
N&W. Does anyone have or know where to look on the internet for a
list of steam locomotives for NKP and <st1:place w:st="on">Wabash</st1:place>
just after their final steam purchases? For Example NKP had 80 2-8-4's,
30 of this and 40 of that. Not a list of road numbers but how many and
what types of locomotives the railroads had?<br>
